The lady of great wines at La Serra

At the Hotel Le Agavi we believe food is not only a source of energy, but a source of pleasure. This is why we are proud of the exclusive Michelin Star we recently received thanks to the gastronomical masterworks by Chef Luigi Tramontano.

However, a perfect dinner cannot abstract from excellence in a bottle to combine every bite with the right wine. Behind a great dish, there is a great wine and, in this case, in life and work, our Chef Luigi Tramontano is accompanied by his wife, maître and sommelier of La Serra Restaurant, Nicoletta Gargiulo. Together, they love giving unique emotions to every single guest dining at our tables.

 

A passion born by chance 

 

Nicoletta is one of the most renown sommeliers In Italy, with a curriculum rich in important awards received at a young age. But, as it always happens with deep passions, the love for wine was born almost by chance: Nicoletta attended the Ais training course as teetotaler just to bring some friends. However, when the training course was over, she understood she had fallen in love with wine, and the passion will turn into her career. In 2007 she reached her greatest award: the designation of best Italian sommelier. Then, beside her position at La Serra, Nicoletta is a speaker during training courses of Associazione Italiana Sommelier and she is also the chairperson of the Campania section of the Ais organization.  A very tight schedule, where at the top you find our restaurant which allows her, beside her career, to spend a great part of the day working with her husband.

At La Serra, in effect, Nicoletta looks after every aspect of our guests’ gourmet experience: from the welcome to the choice of wines, suggesting the right label for the food creations of her partner. Without forgetting the particular structure of our cellar: a glass recess inside the restaurant, facing the blue sea of Positano…pure poetry.

 

The new wine menu 

 

Our master sommelier has clear ideas about bottles: her wine menu is rich in excellence, both Italian and French, especially champagne. You can find famous names as Krug, Cristal, Dom Perignon and minor récoltant manipulant producers, synonymous for quality.

Beside exclusive sparkling wines, Nicoletta for 2018 season proposes a wide selection of organic wines, following the trend to healthy, day by day stronger in enology. She prefers products as uncontaminated as possible, not adulterated by invasive procedures during the refining process in cellar.

If she would choose her favorite label, she could not: as suggested to our guests, she loves enjoying a different one according to the flavors in her plate. With fish delights she prefers white old wines, dry and mineral, giving richness and complexity to the palate. Among red, she loves full-bodied ones, characterized by a fine and elegant tannin.
